The design story so far

New facilities for St Mungo’s with adjoining building for new homes and ground floor commercial space.

As we learned more about the local area the building design has evolved. A stepped profile will not only maximise natural light and views for residents but will also add an attractive detailing to the two buildings which will sit alongside the taller building, Brinklow House and neighbouring Torquay House.

To accommodate the mix of uses on a tight site and to create a pleasant place to live homes will have generous corner windows, balconies and winter gardens and a courtyard space and rooftop terraces introducing nature and greenery into the area.

Reflecting local architecture

Drawing design cues from nearby St Mary Magdalene’s Church and Porchester Hall, a palette of warm, light brick will be complemented by glazed tiles to help mark the entrances for each of the different building uses.

Looking east along Harrow Road, the new buildings will be revealed behind Torquay House with glimpses of the courtyard with trees and planting through a wide walkway providing access for residents. The glazed tiles echo the attractive and modern design of Westminster Academy and will also indicate the entrances for residential properties, the move-on units and the St Mungo’s facility.
